The situation is:

Got the LET plugged in and wired in etc, started first time and ran fine, drove it down the road 2 mins, then left it, came back to it the next day to take it to work to fit the exhaust, and half way it died, just randomly.

towed it to work, and once it cooled down it started again (Next day) but very very lumpy and only just idling, when i add throttle, it just miss fires and stays at one point in the revs. then once it warms up it dies again.

Yesterday i found out that it was wired in wrong, but still well enough to make it run.

Ive noticed the fuel pump relay gets very hot, is there a high/low voltage or something coming from it? causing overfuel etc?

i have tried all the obvious things i.e plugs, leads, dizzy cap, coil, re- timed the cam belt. still no joy.

WHen the car runs it pours out pure black smoke, also when i cut the power to the fuel pump the engine runs faultless for about 5-10 seconds (untill the engine uses the left over fuel) then dies.

I have tried and checked everything else. Is this likely to be the problem and have any of you had a similar problem resulting into a fuel pump relay?

Thanks

i remember someone having a problem of a LET cutting out when hot and then not starting again. it was because the hot start valve thing wasnt wired in, even though you dont use it, it still needs to be wired up iirc.

i dont really know what im talking about though.lol

I was going to say this!

When my relay packed in, it would be on constantly causing the battery to go flat & when the car would start it, it would pop, crack & spit massive blue flames.

Was going to say when mine went it drained the battery over night

I picked a new one up off a vaux shop on ebay for around £18 IIRC, after mine packed in completely and it conked out and wouldn't start

Get a relay then mike. Mine cost £12 off ebay, free delivery aswell. Or £33 if you want a GM one.

yeah ive had issues with fuel pump relay once. had got water on the terminals as i hadnt put a gromit back in properly. was draining the battery and causing bad running when it was running as it kept trying to cut out etc.

pretty sure i have a fuel pump relay mike. let me know if you want it.
