Ello,
I've been offered both an Astra VXR and Subaru WR1 for the same cash, £10k. Both owned by my boss, he wants a quick sale due to pending arrival of his new toy. Anyway, both cars are in immaculate condition and unmodified and both with <20k on the clocks....
I'm in the market for a new car for my daily commute and some track time. I've driven both but I'm still not sure about ownership of either car - can anyone advise on which would be the best long term (plan on having it 4+ years) option?
which would you choose? anyone with any experience of either car? things to look out for and so on?
Cheers,

Got to be the WR1!!! Only thing the Astra has on it is mpg and age!
Drive both though and make your own mind up!

WR1 will hold its value a lot better.
My brother has a WR1, and he loves it.
By the way, considdering the WR1 has less than 20k on the clock, £10k is very cheap.

Subaru any day! Im not a fan generally, and the costs may add up once you add the subaru jacket, hat, scarf, shoes, sunglasses, mug, pen/pencil, mousemat, stickers and bag, but id rather have that than a VXR.

yeh they both seem like good buy's, guess he's in a good mood after he got news his GTR is due soon! I do like the WR1 over the astra but will I be expecting expensive engine rebuilds and the "wrong type of attention"?
BluKoo, does your brother run his everyday? had any issues with it?

No, he only uses it as a weekend car really. After he cleaned the underside of it and polished the exhaust and diff he's scared to use it too much Plus he doesn't want to put too many miles on it. I think its only got about 15k at the moment.
And no, he's not had any problems with it. Apart from emptying his bank account on it every now and again (mods, not repairs).

This the light blue one? Only made a few hundred?
I'd take the scooby then, for value.

seems pretty conclusive then, I'm going to borrow it maybe this weekend and have a proper go of it, maybe have it looked over by someone who knows their Subaru's.... then its sorting out how to pay for it!!
Ok, I'm on his insurance now, means I can go steal his other cars when he's not looking!
Got my own quotes too - cheapest was £536 FC with £500 excess. not bad, most expensive one was £3698... lol.

WR1 will hammer it in every single performance aspect. As said, fuel consumption and age is the only advantages in the VXR.

Not on the new age Subarus, they seemed to have sorted the early reliability issues out (extra oil feeds and better cooling) so I don't think you will have a problem!
I ran a lightly modded P1 for 2 years (one of the worst for reliability) and never had a single problem!
Both very nice cars and probably worth similar, down to personal preference I guess. Is the Astra still under warranty though?

Are they still daft to insure then? Sold mine about 3 years ago now and I remember getting a refund of about £300 from my insurance company when I got the Tuscan. Thought it might have come down a bit by now?
Back up to paying daft money again in the RS6 though!

I'm only 21 and lost my no claims in December. D'oh! So its not that bad, I was joking though, no chance I would pay that for insurance tbh
