A friend of mine, her family lives here but has a home in Ireland. Shes going to Uni or college or something over there and wanted to find out if it was cheaper to take her car (UK registered) or buy a car over there (IRE registered).
She asked me to look up the road tax for her (she drives a V reg 1.1 106 here, £125 for a year) and in IRE it would cost €251 a year Thats £230 at the current exchange rate
If your unlucky enough to own a 3.0+ car, it's €1343 a year - about £1200 for a year

Insurance and tax in the republic are extortionate even compared to here.
They did have a better quality of life for it but i'm not so sure that holds anymore.

How sickening would that be, paying more in road tax than insurance.

I was genuinely shocked.
I just text my uncle that (he drives a 3.0 Jag S-type) and he came back with one word: "FUCK!"

I used to complain a lot about the euro/pound but its only expensive because the pound is worth fuckall and the euro is doing well.
Serves the UK right for hanging onto the Euro
typical labour trashing the pound
still that is ridiculous for tax lol
its about 140EUR year for range rover sport in Spain

That's not how it works, that's the English anyway, nothing to do with the UK, they'd have to check who was driving.
