I purchased my new car a few days back now and it has ran out of tax today . i am sorting out insurance tomorrow but it will take a few days at least to get the paper work through i would imagine. is there anyway i can tax my car without the insurance paper work ? also cant do it online as i only have the new keeper supliment at the moment . Will i get a fine for this or do they give a week or so to sort it out ? as much info as possible would be much appriciated thanks.

SORN it until you get the paperwork. at least then you can't get done as long as you don't drive it, which you can't do anyway as you haven't got the tax.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Have you even read the direct.gov website that explains all this or just internet forum speculation?

use your email from the insurance company, they might not notice, I had the same problem and chanced it, they never noticed it wasn't the right certificate and gave me tax. i was insured anyway so not breaking any laws.

Phone them and ask them would be a good move
They can suggest the best method there and then rather than leaving it to chance.
