What are they like to live with? the mk1 ones.. 98-99 reg..
which engine is the best to go for?
spoke to a lad i know who worked as a mechanicfor 3 years and said that the 1.6 16v is the best of the lot and that it's better not to even think about getting a diesel? any truth in that?
any one had any experience with them?

Drove one in work the other day, reasonably comfy. Think it was a 2.0 though.

was it roun-ish one or square -ish one?
the square looking ones have lots of electronics problems...
I know a girl that has one... but not sure on engine... she gave me a lift in that... loved every single second of that!

funny you say that! my mum has a Clio and it never failed except when i radio wouldnt turn off and drained the battery, and when the wire on starter motor corroded andthe car wouldnt start...
dad had a renault 9 ( epic car) and it only things that went wrong with it were the fuel tank got hole, and carb needed setting up...

I drove a newer one the other day 02 plate 1.9 Tdi and that wasnt that bad.
I got a lift in a mk1 Laguna and that was good, that was a 1.6 Petrol, R Reg with 104,000 on the clock.

The 1.6 16v in the original Laguna is gutless and slow. If you're after a petrol one, get at least the 1.8 16v.
I've got the 1.6 16v, and wish I'd got one of the bigger engines.

Dad has a N reg 2.0 Auto one back in the day.
Did over 200k IIRC with no major problems.
He was quite proud of the fact it did 120 flat out in 4th gear
