My dad sold his ST170 and wants the next shape Focus (not the new one, a la Ben G). He doesnt have the budget for an ST, hes got about £6000.
Hes found a 1.6 petrol he wants to view, anyone driven it? I personally cant see the appeal of an engine that small in a car that big, considering he is going from a 2.0l 160ish bhp to a 1.6 110bhp.
But yea, do they need ragging to go anywhere or is it actually capable?

will be fine. the focus is a bigger car but it still pulls well for a 1.6
the 2.0 would be better for motorway driving but for town driving, the 1.6 will be fine.

I have a 1.6 Focus and it's ok for what it is. Still best in the class regarding handling/ride etc.

Thanks for that, especially Ben seeing as how you work with them (or are you just TDCi?)
He will be doing mainly town driving with a once/twice annual seaside holiday, so 1.6 will be alright for him?

i had a courtesy car 1.6 on a 57 plate, i thought it was terriable to be honest, was completely gutless! i imagine maybe its due to all the emission reg ?? the 1.6 in the early focus was not bad compared to the new one!

We've moved on since the days of bigger cars needing gas-guzzling 2.0 engines.
1.6 Focus will be absolutly fine.
Infact, one of my college mates' wife has a 1.4 one and that still manages very very well.

It is, but it all depends what you've owned before.
