They go quiet well. 6 speed box. 160+ bhp.
I noticed when looking at them a while back, that alot of them were high milers and had engine rebuilds are new gearbox?
Weak point? Not entirely sure!

Lol @ offering a td when he's looking at GTis. Good luck though.
My cousin had a GTi6 and it went really well, it was a dead torquey engine from what I remember - can get to 120mph pretty quickly and he had that at 145 at one point iirc. What kind of price are you looking at for a minter?

Fast, handle shit hot, but by no means reliable. Not unreliable, just need looking after type thing.

1 friend & 1 whole year of ownership.
306's generally fall to bits around the engine, electrics, suspension etc, factor in 167bhp engine that needs decent oil etc and a bit of looking after, the fact they are aging now and that they are a car made for having a decent drive,( not just picking the shopping up) and you will do well to hit a high level of relaibility.

Agreed. They need looking after, and they have god awful interiors especially those dashes.
But goes well for an old car, could nearly cut it with todays modern NA hot hatches.

I know it's not a GTI6, but I owned my 306 for 5 years, and now my other half has it, and still nothing's gone wrong or fallen off.

I got electrical gremlin in my headlight, a knackered door loom that is a common problem on 306's as the wires in the door don't have enough slack, this lead to central locking going and electric window stopping. Drop links, drive shafts, rear wheel bearing, snapped injector pipe, blown turbo, exhaust dropping off due to rust, and a hole further back in the pipe later on, a radiator that gave in (resulted in a replacement engine but that was my fault)
I'm a big fan of 306's and would love a gti-6, but as i'm not mechanically minded and need a car for work, I wouldn't own one at present.

Door looms are a common problem, I had that on one of my 306s. Handle brilliantly, so much better than a corsa.

My Mates just bought a 306 Rallye (same as a GTI6 but weighs a bit less) from pug performance on race cams, stripped, caged ect, my Valver passed his at 130 but his is running a bit shitty tbf, fast car and VERY underestimated. Before that he had a 2.0 16v sxi and even that went lol

i used to have one, look out for one thats had cam belt change as they are prone to snap, also ones that have been repaired from cambelt snap norm have a tappy top end and are to avoid.
fantastic cars though. mine went well and was fairly reliable. nice and comfortable car. well worth the money.
