On my way into work last nighI went a different route for a change and was on a derestricted road (60 limit). I went around a bend in the road and there was a traffic car parked up with red lights flashing and what looked like a speed gun on a tripod behind it. I was only doing 40 so just cruised past him at that. A few yards past him was a small 30 sign on a lampost. I didn't see the large sign indicating the change in speed limit so I was confused.
Tonight, I went the same route and just before the bend was a sign post. couldn't see what was on top of it as the top half was covered my tree branches. I stopped the car and got on the grass verge under the tree which was the only place I could see the 30 sign on the top of the sign.
I'm now well pissed off that they are checking speeds and more than likely will give me points when I couldn't see the change in speed due to the sign being covered.
My fear is that by the time I get a letter from them about the speed, they will have trimmed the branches off the tree.
If I take a photo they will probably say it isn't legally binding so what do I do? I might make a complaint to the council and keep copies of the letter just incase but will this cover me?
EDIT: pictures of signs,
the blurred one was taken from inside the car and the clear one from stood in the midle of the road

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Don't know if it'll definitely help you out if you need to prove it, but definitely worth doing just in case - at least you'll have some form of proof to back you up should you need it

That is a good idea.
Also, I'm seeing an increasing number of traffic Police cars baiting performance car owners into putting their foot down.
This stupid c*nt-twat of a traffic officer was behind me on Sunday in an undercover Vectra, I sussed it straight away as they have the GSi slatted grille on the SRi's and you can see the cut outs for the lights. Anyway, there he is sitting a centimetre off my bumper, moving out to the middle of the road in a 30mph limit trying to get me to put my foot down.
They are a disgusting bunch of human beings that are a law to themselves.

Was half way through typing an online complaint to the council, but I've binned that off untill I have photo evidence incase they trim the tree tomorrow before I get a camera. Really pisses me off as the fact the sign is covered is more dangerous than me speeding at 40 as others could be doing 60 as they think the limit hasn't changed.

It's shit, but there is a precedent for convictions being overturned due to obscured roadsigns.
On another note, fucking at your membership status.

Wonder how he would have explained that if he went into the back of you when you had to brake suddenly.

It is a shame that in the time they were sat there, hundreds of cars will have gone past oblivious to the speed limit.

I'd think about it carefully before doing it tbh, i've found it very very boring.
It's driving about at speed limits and checking your mirrors every 10 seconds, literally.
