OK I want a decent TV card for my PC running vista media centre

seen loads of analogue/digital ones and I dont know whats best?

Wont need duel tuners, just enough to watch freeview channels

anyone got the WINTV card ready to get sky on their PC?

any ideas what to go for? Oh must be able to work off WMC remote too. Radio would be a bonus

Thanks

I've got a two cards:

Hauppauge Nova-T 500 for Freeview
Hauppauge Nova HD-S2 for Freesat

Both work fine in VMC (running 7MC now actually), although the Nova-T won't work with more than 3Gb of RAM so I'd actually recommend a Compro

The Nova HD-S2 is perfect though. Any tuner will work with the remote while you're in VMC. I wouldn't worry about radio too much if you get a satellite card (much better quality radio channels).

Cheers, Tim.

So for the freesat card I guess you need a dish too? If I pop a Nova HD-S2 card in I will get all normal freeview channels? Any HD ones too? cheers

PS - Running a Dell GX755 with HDMI out for 40" Samsung TV and VGA for Projector (extended desktop) with 8GB RAM

As long as it looks OK on either screen I'll be happy

I thought you did? plus more?

And all you need is a sky dish... so if you have recently got rid of sky and still have the dish get yourself a freesat pci card or box?

If you've just got rid of sky don't do anything and you'll have freesat.

Nah. Folks have it. There's a few you don't get. Can only remember Five US off the top of my head, but there's more. Shows some decent movies that channel.

You get about 900 channels using the HD-S2. It's not just 'Freesat', but all free-to-air channels on whichever Astra satellite is pointed at the UK (can't remember what it's called). Some really bizarre channels, including BET, "Northern Birds", and lots of foreign stuff.

For HD channels you have BBC HD, ITV HD, and Luxe HD. Look awesome No 4HD though as 7MC doesn't support S2 (the above all use standard DVB-S).

I'm not sure what's missing from Freeview on Freesat as MediaCenter combines the Guides (I never really know which card I'm watching).

PS: Don't buy the Nova-T 500 if you have 8Gb RAM (I assume you're running Vista 64-bit). The Compro cards work apparently though

You would only get itv hd if you bought an HD freesat box.

If you had sky hd and got rid of it you'd have itv hd (as soon as the box gets the epg udate)

You don't get E4 and Film4 on sky if you don't pay, do you? Not sure if you get them on freesat or not.

If you've had a sky subscription and you cancel it you get them + all of the channels on http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/freesat-tv-choice.aspx

Are you saying you get them on the freesat box?

I'm telling you for a fact that my g/f's mum had a sky subscription then cancelled it and she doesn't get film4 or e4. There's a message that comes up saying she has to pay £1 for each.

I went into my mums bedroom and checked before I posted there, it's an old sky box and a card that we cancelled the subscrition on, it's automatically went over to a freesat card.

You can buy a card for £20 anyway if you've got the box and everything.

She won't get them if the card is out.

Just tried that card in my sky+ box, works fine there as well.

Just tried it in the HD box for future reference, got all the free HD channels apart from itv HD, that's only because i've not got the new epg yet, I don't see any reason i'd get the rest and not itv.
