I had a letter from the police yesterday saying my old car (which I sold on feb 25th) was caught for a numberplate offence on march 3rd and didnt pay the fine within 28 days, and now the reminder has come to me. The only problem is, I don't have the guy's details any more so I can't fill the form in to say who was driving, I tried ringing the number but it just rings out so im guessing its closed on the weekend. I do have his name and mobile number though, I texted him yesterday (in my phone as 'skyline buyer?', asking if it was adam (I got his name from the emails) and he said it was, i texted back saying what happened and asked for his address, no reply. Rang an hour later, no reply, rang this morning twice, no reply
What do you think my chances are of not having to pay for his fine? It's only £30 but its the principle of the thing that is annoying! I can also prove that my insurance on that vehicle was cancelled on feb 21st, the day I bought my current one, so maybe that will help too as they would have done me for no insurance at the time too if it were me driving!
Anyone else been in a similar situation and got it resolved?

just ignore it, probably an automatically generated letter that got posted out without being checked over.

surely just go to your local station explain the situation, they can check with the dvla to check the sign over of ownership then they will pass the fine over to the new owner i would have thought

I'm guessing you didn't send the v5 off?
Get a letter sent into the dvla asap informing them you no longer own it anyway.

same thing happened when we sold a car, simply write a nice letter to dvla along with some evidence that you actually sold the car, if you can, and they'll sort sort it out, nothing to worry about.
