Hmm

I have only ever asked about history on my newish car, 53 plate too.

Older cars I'm not too bothered about

I know it's a bit backwards

Is it a 172?

Would have to be really really cheap.

I'd not say no straight off the bat, can normally tell if it's been looked after or not.

No same here ShEp, didnt really care about history on any of my other cars. Cambelt can be pricey on the clios though. The car is at a garage, they rang the original renault dealer who say they have no record of servicing that car, so if it did it was done elsewhere.

I know the advert says service history but when I rang I was told there is none and they dont know why its on the advert. Based on that alone there is room for improvement on the price.

They'd have to drop at least 1500 off the price, can get 182's for that.

I'd go and have a look, check old mot's for mileage and judge if it looks like it's been serviced.

Belt is a PITA on them, although easier on the cup because of no aircon.

Im struggling to find a clean example cheaper thats within about 150 miles. I did look at one on monday with history on an 03 plate, same mileage. Just had to belt done too. Thing is the interior was complete shabby, the steering wheel needed replacing amongst other interior parts ideally, and the lower engine mount needed doing too. Was a shame because the bodywork was mint.

I wouldn't worry about the steering wheels, they all go like that, just need to keep your eye out for a good one on cliosport.

Rest of interior would put me off though.

HPI the thing, make sure it stacks up and have an independant RAC/AA check done on it for total peace of mind. I wouldnt let the lack of SH put you off providing the results of the above come back favourably - the car is far from new ffs. Negotiate on the price anyway to reflect a belt service etc...

no way would i buy a car without history.
thats unless the price is very good and you could afford to budget for a duff engine etc. i mean theres no excuse not to have a car of that age and value not to be serviced!
another thing dont just go on stamps in the service book ask for invoices. ive seen salesmen stamp up service books to look like full history! it means bugger all.

if your quite mechanically minded then go down and have a good look at the car, you can usually tell something thats been abused or had a hard life pretty easy, if not take a petrolhead with some mechanical knowledge down with you.

dont be put off by no history, just because a book has been stamped and written in dosent always mean its genuinley been done.

knock the guy down a few hundred quid or get a cambelt done in with the deal for the car

If your planning on keeping it for about 2 or 3 years then it wouldn't bother me, just make sure the price reflects it or includes a belt change and service.
