A guy at work has a motorbike on ebay,m its an old thing from the 1950's he was going to do up but never got round to doing. He recons the bikes worth about a grand done up but would cost more than that to do so is happy to get anything for it. Says he would be happy for £50
Anyway the bikes now got 90odd viewers & hes been getting bids from people to end now for £400+, biddings up to 300odd.
This is much more than its worth & the only thing we can think is the dateless plate. Its JGE 785 - nothing special really.
The bikes been off the road for some 40yrs & he holds the original log book doesnt know a thing about the number.
Can anyone shed any light into whether its valuable & whether it can be claimed to remove to put onto another vehicle?

Hmm the bikes in bits currently
I find it weird theres so much interest, alot of it seems directed at the plate aswell!!
The thing is theres no mention of the number in the listing & the only clue to it is in one of the pic's.
Maybe people with the initials JGE trawling through ebay looking for an old thing with their initials on I cant think of anything else.

someone with an identical (roadworthy) BSA could swap the plates over, mot it and sell the plate on...

There are limitations because the doner vehicle needs proper validation of its identity. A lot of older stuff is prohibited from transfers because the records aren't good enough.

your right there ian, when I applied for my logbook for the Alvis, I had to prove the plates belonged with the vehicle. I managed to do this with an old tax disc that was in the car and help from the Alvis owners club........so I got a logbook.....but the plates are now non transferable and have to stay with the car.

It could easily be made to look like JOE so thats why people people will be bidding
Getting the plate from that bike to anything else will be a different story
