isit me or does 37mpg sound shit for a 1.4?
the clio equivilent does 43mpg
the 206 does 44mpg!
and the 1.4 zetec 99 fiesta does 39mpg.
Is the 1.4 just shit economically?
The reason im asking is because i am about to make a jump from a 1.0 corsa b which supposedly does 49mpg... I do like the economy of the car as i travel abour 80miles a day due to work. I just need a bigger car and want another corsa cause there cheap!
Im 21 and do not have any NCB but have been driving about 4 years. Do i get a 1.2 16v and be done with it or go for the 1.4 16v?

Maybe better off getting a derv like the corsa C 1.3CDTI if economy is what you desire. Or if it's a B you would rather then course the 1.5TD engine

Swill's right, you'd be better on paper with a 1.3 diesel Corsa C.
I have a 1.0 and have never gotten anywhere near 49mpg out of it It's all lies.
You can always convert it (the 1.4) to LPG

newer engines are more economical
also worth noting, cars never get as good mpg as the figures claim they do.

oh yea i am aware of this but even so the difference between 49 and 37 will still be roughly 12 miles to every gallon i put in. I thought the 1.3 diesels were corsa d's only... looking on autotrader now.

Nah the C's had them, though in the D their more refined (BHP wise) but nothing a remap won't help with

depends on how you drive a 1.4 if your talking the 16v engine then i have seen them figures on town driving and have seen into the 50+ for motorways.
the 8v engines i dont know about
all depends on how you drive really
one exception tho... new mazda 3 fucking thing uses more fuel than half of south east asia and thats driving it like a granny fooking car.. ok rant over

i got a 1.4 16v and went to weston super mare and back with loads of detours on a single tank and still had a quarter left in it
get very gd mpg depends how you drive it

I get an average of 42.9 from my 1.6 pug that does 99% motorway.
37 MPG out of an old car is pretty good i say.
I just think fuel prices are stupid and like to moan about them a lot

i gave my 1.4 16v sport a good service before driving down cornwall for my holliday and i think on average i worked it out to be around 47 mpg but that was with just steady motorway driving. i thin k the figurs of 37mpg come from the average of basicaly round town and motorway miles if you get me bud, so it is possible to achieve higher but only on longer distances and with sensible driving

Only way to get more MPG is to drive slower. I can get 55MPG driving down the motorway at 50MPH. I just get very bored and want to get to work/home.

well i used to do from mine to basingstoke every weekend and used to tank it a lot. Car would do 66 miles to one notch on the fuel gauge. Them i used to do mine to bornmouth and used to use just under 1 and 3/4 if driven sensable.. So 14xe will do good mileage to a tank, i could see around the 400+ miles per tank mark if not closer to 500 if very sensable. Christ i did 300 miles and it used just over half a tank..
