Took old red for a spin today and the clutch has started to slip, just before a long haul to ISTS on the weekend too.
Decided that if im going to go through the painstaking progress of taking out the gearbox again, im going to uprate the clutch and get it diffed too. Obviously Quaife springs to mind so was just wondering if anyone knew of any cheap places to try and also any recomended clutches for traffic light fun
Gearbox is currently an F18???

Why have you chosen an F18 over an F20/F16??

Personally id whip the F18 out and stick an F20/F16 in it.The F18 ratios are longer than a week in jail.
Or is your box been opened and had the final drive etc played with??

lol yea the F18 is a pretty random choice i know but TBH but i got it for free after my F20 went pop. What box would you recommend then? I always thought the F20 had an even ratio and the F16 was too "weak" for a C20xe?

Was thinking about a paddle clutch but heard its a reet bastid to live with?

pm steveboyslim on MIGweb for a price on a quaife diff.

I've had both F18s and F20s and there's hardly any difference between each (unless you've got an F18w which I doubt), so corsasport_21 is talking bollox.

Im only going by what ive experienced. My mate has an Astra van fitted with a V6 and F18 box and it goes forever in each gear compared to my old heavier Mk3 Gsi V6.Felt like an F25 tbh.
Must have been fitted with an F18W(which tbh i never knew existed). So sorry, but i wasnt talking bollox.

Why do you doubt that he has an F18W??Have u been in the car??

A wide F18 does something like 130mph in 4th on an xe, it's also a very very rare gearbox.

The F18c came with ALL late (dizzyless) XE's as fitted to astra gsi's. I ran one on my 240bhp xe for 2.5 years and it never broke, it's no weaker or worse than the F20.

No it never.ALL C20XE's weather it be early or late were fitted with F20s from factory.
