Did this mate have the 20bhp adding washer jets and we all know having your fogs on is an instant 20bhp aswell, thats the only way the rallye can be faster than the GTi

Please leave, you are talking absolute BULLSHIT.
A GTi won't be far off an XE. Upto 60 there isn't much in it at all but after that the XE will start to pull away. Handling wise, it'll be 100x better than your Corsa. Driven properly it'll leave you standing in your 2.0. People say they are horrendous for breaking down but I find my L reg to be very reliable. Doesn't matter a damn what you race as the driver in the other car/you could be shit so not a fair comparison
Ps; Fling a 4-2-1, decat system and BMC CDA onto a GTi and it'll be as quick as an XE up til silly speeds when the torque of the XE will make it slowly pull away.

Bullshit.
Rallyes are rarer, more exclusive, they handle slightly better out the box due to being lighter but its not a huge difference. 106 GTIs are great cars, very quick for what they are and handling is superb, the chassis design is far superior to your corsa and you will notice it. The pedals are quite close together but it just takes getting used to.

I've got one, used to have a XE Corsa.
106 is more chuckable but not as quick as a valver (but mine is standard, can't comment on modified ones).
Faster than any standard Corsa anyway but I would have my old XE GSi over it for the suprise factor at the lights

Judging by that comment (what he said and how he said it) I'd say he's just a bit off really.

But you have a better base with a GTi for tuning... And if you tuned that up as much (actually easier to gain bhp from than the Rallye) then you'd be left with MORE power so a pointless comparison

Not a fair comparison then! My 8v can and has dominated GTIs and VTS' on track, but its highly modified.

You said rallyes are alot quicker than GTIs because your mates was and he regretted getting a GTI, but then said his Rallye was highly modified. So it wouldnt be fair to say Rallyes are quicker than GTIs...

Older style as in looks like the one in my pic? (boxy). They are a 1.4. Not as quick as your X16XE but certainly quicker than the 1.4 Sports.
