Thats what i thought, but
I just read on thames valley police website, that the National speed limit for Vans is 50, 60, 70.
http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/rdsafe/rdsafe-roadpol/rdsafe-roadpol-speedenforcement (scroll down to vans)
Is this right...i drive a van for work, yet have never seen this before. i thought vans and cars were same :s

I always thought it depends on the vehicle class.. A van bodied car is the same as a car, but a proper van (goods vehicle) is supposed to be 60mph I thought.. My old man got done for doing 70 in a van on the motorway..
But goods vehicles also get an easier time on tyres, they just have to have a visible tread pattern and the speed ratings are a joke IIRC black cab taxi's are the same?

so for instance a combo or astra van is the same as a car and something like a transit will be 10mph slower? or are we talking long wheelbase vans that are 10mph slower?

are your sure this doesnt apply to vans with a gws of over 3500kg? as its a silly enforment if it covers everything from a transit tipper to corsa with just panelled out windows.

Vans up to 2,000kg MLW (as long as they are car-derived) are treated like cars.. then 2,000KG + to 7,500KG are limited to 50 on single carrige ways and 60 on dual carrigeways but 70 on motorways like everyone else..

If a car derived van has no rear windows its also 50mph on a single carriageway and 60mph on a dual.
