Hi all, Just asking your opinions on the mk3 ibiza cupra 1.8 20v.. Thinking of buying one soon, About 2001-2003 age wise and not too sure on colours... Opinions pics? Also wat are there weekneses and good points?. I know have a nice 106 gti on low millage and in good condition. Would you have a ibiza over a gti? Heard that the ibiza's handeling isnt that good?.. Opinions please

why my brothers is faster than a 106 and handles just as well lowered with spacers

They are quick in a straightline, but understeer when you push them.

Some decent suspension and ARB's could probably fix that though.

Standard 106GTI VS standard Cupra, would probably be neck and neck in a straight line, but the GTI will handle much better.

the ibiza in that much more comfy tbh, my brother went from a quicksilver to his and it was an improvement but my golf is still miles better

theyre ok cars. thats about it. there isnt anything really terrible about them, therer isnt anything great about them. theyre an average middle of the road reasonably quickish car. not earth shatteringly fast. theyre made from a gn shape polo and some mk3 golf bits. neither of which were a great car/chasis at all.

As said, some decent coilovers, spacers and a ARB will make it handle better than a GTi, few mods and you should see 200bhp too

Not too hot on the handling side, even when modified, very tuneable engine, good-ish build quality

there is no way a ibiza with spacers will handle aswell as a 106 gti, not even a ibniza with arb and coilovers would.

the spacers thransformed the car, and it handles alot better than his 106 quicksilver, which was lowered too and basically a gti

quicksilver is not a GTI, diff ARB, spring rates and dampers.

I had 20mm spacers, Konigsports and it still changed direction like a elephant after a full geo setup aswell.

I wouldn't say they are 'shockingly' built, only problem Ive had with mine is CV joints and window regulator

Agreed, plastics pealing, button falling off, limp mode every five minutes, new sensor every week, handled like turd after i chucked aload of money at it.

Sorry but thats just not true

I went from a pretty well sorted (suspension wise) 106 gti to an Ibiza cupra with the full H&R Cup kit with 20mm rear spacers and front upper strut brace and my old 106 would leave it for dead in anything other than a straight line

Would still have another Ibiza tho as I loved my old one

I see, but what other cars would you recomend after a 106 gti. Im not doing big milage a week, insurance is not a big problem within reason, and im just looking for a nice car that i can use daily, with it being quite nippy.?. Would you just buy another 106?. Fancy the rallye model as a change..And track it up with cage and billies, might feel safer if i had a cage round me.. Opinions?.Thanks

it will never handle as good as the gti will, im not sure much for the same sort of price range/fun fast nipy hatchbacks will. but i love my cupra now and i wouldnt go back to a french 106etc type car unless it was silly silly fast!
mines lowered on hr cup susp, need my rear spacers, but since the susp it has transformed the car. can chuck it around corners, obviously it wont be as good as the gti but im used to it now and know what it will do etc... boost is fun, and mines only running just above standard power until the remap, but love my spool up. if you go for a standard ibiza u wont like it as much as the gti, but once the cupra has a few mods you will love it

i honestly think you had a shit example which had obviously seen worse days. i have one and i know 3 people very well who have the same cars. not one of us have has issues minus 1 engine mount bolt had loosened. but then you could go around and find a bunch more who have failing mafs and coilpacks every week. depends on how the car has been treated in the past i guess.

my mate has one of these, absolute animal.. raced a mr400 evo on saturday which isnt standard and was slightly infront at about 180+mph
