Why are tyres with LESS rubber MORE expensive

From black circles Toyo T1R's are £33 for 195/50/15's but 195/45/15's are £40

you're moaning about 33-40 quid a tyre? mine were 140 each for conti's.

oh and lower profile tyres always cost more usually, they look better, less weight i guess? handle better i presume too.

It is due to the popularity of the size. The 50's are more common, therefore produced in greater numbers and as such have lower over heads.

hmmmm £150 per corner for me. but point taken; less rubber more pricey. its like less is more (which it is, they know it looks better even though it costs less to produce so they charge more for it)

I disagree, they are more expensive as they are produced in smaller runs. Each tyre will have to go through a design, manufacture and testing process. All that costs money. That money has to be recuperated in the sales, if they sell more of a certain size, then they can spread those costs over a greater number.

Look at luxury cars, a koningseggeseggsegg probable costs a similar amount to a corsa to get to the production line, but as they sell a trillion corsas and only 5 koningseggs then the costs are added to the material cost. ( all figures are approx)

Do people actually buy their tyres online?

Whenever I need new tyres I decide what brand/type/size etc. I want, I look for the cheapest price online, and then I am usually able to get a big discount off the price by phoning a few local tyre fitters.

there very good prices blackcircles is normaly a rip off!
as mentioned its all down to volumes made, the higher the volume the cheaper the tyre.
plus making a larger lower profile tyre is probabably harder than a usualy big everyday tyre that has less demands put upon it.

fook me thats alot £200 for ditch finders!

its really worth shopping round online then finding a local tyre place to fit them, the guy round the corner from my work fits and balances them for only £6.50 a wheel.
