Been workin for 4 years as an electrician done nearly all my qualifications bar 1 (am2) and i got laid off in december, couldnt find anything else so have been workin in a car wah the boss is known for being a complete bell end not only by former and current employees but by customers and anyone who knows him really lol. anywayyyyy as im not driving at the moment due to a crash i had my mum gives me lifts to work or my mates etc etc on the days i cant get one ill get a taxi whic is £9..... today i couldnt get a lift so got a taxi... due to traffic i arrived at work and clocked in at 2 mins past nine (no exageraton) and he sent me home straight away, as you can imagine i wasnt happy and went a bit mad, managed to get him to give me £10 and a free lift home in his audi

But still he knows my situation and that i do my best to get to work on time considering and makes no effort to accomodate it. by the way public transport isnt an option as i work out it the "sticks"

Errrrrrr i'd take a copy of an employment handbook along with me and inform him how many laws he's breaking..

Any verbal warnings?
Any written warnings?

Do you have any form of contract?

Cowboys like him end up with tens of thousands in fines for dismissals.

I know of someone who got caught stealing from the till by the owner, he actually saw her do it.

He sacked her on the spot.

He got taken to a tribunial and fined £8000 because HE didn't follow the law. Instead of Suspending her without pay, HE had to pay a fine, and she got off scott free.

Employment laws cover our employees asses so much its nearly a joke on the poor companies who are simply trying to make a living.

Labour, again. Blame them.

But also thank them for the security it gives you in your jobs!!!!!

Aye very true

You can get sacked on the spot but thats only for like gross misconduct isnt it? say like if you walked up to your boss and smacked him one

Not 100% sure, gross misconduct still needs to be investigated.

Hence why you suspend them with/without pay until a formal meeting is held.

Then the decision can be made to remove the person from the company for GM, but for other offences, you ahve to go down the right channels to the law.

Verbal, Written etc...

Also, can't remember if its 6 months of 1 year, but after the time, the record is wiped and you start at zero again. I.e if you got a verbal then a written over 2 offences for net usage, then give it a year, and u'll be back to getting a verbal again, instead of a sacking.

UK employment laws cover our asses so much is untrue.

If he runs a car wash there's every likelihood he runs something else to warrant having a car wash to launder money.

Doesn't matter what he thinks or cares about.

The law is there, and if appropriate procedures are not followed, he can be fined.

I'd look into employment laws more.

Ant, maybe YOU should do some reading about employment law then if you think that way

Clever statement that..

Yes, employment laws, jobs, money, none of its real. We all work our lives, but really its in all our imaginations....
