Looking at potentially getting a R33 skyline GTR.

I know that drunkenfool has got one on here (or a GTS-T) wanting to know what they are like really.

Pitfalls, apart form the obvious one that is throwing money down the drain. Any particular weak points to them?

They are all ugly except the R34 in my opinion but even so an R33 is still skyline, better than telling people you drive a Corsa/Nova

what do you want to know.....

Your prob best to buy a known UK car (check on GTRoc for history etc). If you arent sure about it, make sure it has a full history file, with work from reputable tuners etc.

Running costs - A LOT if you want to keep it in tip top condition.

We change fluids in ours about every 200miles but the norm is oil changes around 3k miles. I'd change front/rear diff, gear box and transfer box yearly if driven hard.... every couple of year if not.

They are 4WD... BUT not like most folk think they are They run in RWD until loss of grip is detected. At that point (in straight line) it will shift torque to the front to help. As standard it will put more torque to REAR on corners (car has a g sensor to detect leteral movement) to give it RWD charactaristics. This can be changed with the addition of a box of gizmos to give it upto 50/50 spilt (changeable in cabin) when lateral movement is detected. Much better.

They are big heavy cars.... 1500+kg. They will use tyres and brakes.

Try and get a car with uprated or steel internal'd turbos. The std ceramic ones are a limiting factor... and will get blown to bits around 1.2bar

Be wary of 6k R33 GTR's, most likely pigs.

They were a 50k car when new.... running costs dont fall with residual value.

You were asking about info on Skylines And as you're only potentially looking at GTR's thought i'd addmy 2p's worth on the next model down as it's the only one i've owned of the Skyline family tree

Scoob - Supras and Skylines are completly different cars

I love the 2JZ engine, but the RB26 is just more aggressive and rev'y. Toyota engine is prob stronger.... but it shares the same limits.... its an engine after all.

Both are quite happy on standard internals and 500hp
