If the wheels are the correct offset then you will be alright.

40mm = ok.

60mm = major arch mods (de-bolting and grinding away the inner arch plastic)

i have 15" et33 alloys using 185/45/15 tyres on my car atm, the rear is down -60mm on spax springs/shocks and the front is on coilovers. it has only scrubbed twice when traveling on a bumpy dual carriageway with 5 people in the car.

I had 16" ET42 on my old car and always scrubbed on the front, even with just me in the car and when there was four of us it scrubbed on every corner. That was lowered 40mm

if you had 16's with 45 or lower profile tyres, technically you could take the springs out and the wheels still wouldnt rub, if you have the correct offset (ET49)
