Hi.

So here we are again, towards the end of last year i had an unfortunate incident in my Silver VX220 Turbo and the insurance decided to write it off. I had a look round at a few cars whilst waiting for my insurance to sort the money out including old 911s, 350Zs, Elises and S2000s. However everytime i looked at cars for sale online i would always find that i ended up searching for VX220s as well

So on a sunny March afternoon I went to have a look at at this 2003 Petrol Blue VX220 Turbo, i wasnt sure about the colour but the car was cheap with low miles and full service history from Vauxhall and Thorney Motorsport. It also has a re-map from Thorney and an upgraded all alloy radiator as the standard one is prone to popping due to plastic bits. Got there and the car seemed honest and i liked the colour so the day after went and brought it home with me

Bought a few bits on ebay tonight, some alloy indicator stalks to replace the generic vauxhall ones, Pipercross panel filter and coolant tank cover.

Then i found some Gaz coilovers with a buy it now or option to make an offer. I made an offer that i thought was rather low just on the off chance and its been accepted So that means i now need some new wheels as well I quite like the new pro race 3s....

Thing is they dont come in the preferred 17/16in combo, only 17s all round, hmm

I don't like the colour, but it's not my car so who cares

Do they do the Pro Race 3 in 18's?

Rarest of colours for these cars, I think they look really great in it personal.

These are such lovely cars, we have one in the family.

Whats the general plan for the car then?

13 of them in the whole wide world according to this site - http://www.lotuscars.se/type116/rbf/colorpercentages.php

Just little tweaks really to make it properly nice. Its my every day car so going to hopefully get a hard top, some nice interior bits like the proper fitted mats and pass footrest, padded leather door cards and maybe central locking. Front end could do with a re-spray and some armour fend stuff as well.

My other one was more track orientated with R888s and mega agressive suspension, i dont think i will be doing any trackdays in this one though. There isnt like a massive plan for it, simply because they are so good out the box!

The familys one has got armer fend on it and its done wonders in protecting the paint.

I would not go off that website, I think i seen 5 once at a lotus on track day. Still a rare colour none the less.

Did you say you had it remaped by Thorney, are you getting any problems which acturator stall at about 4,000 RMP?

Owner before me had it done. I have no idea what actuator stall is but my old one on the standard one had a nasty flat spot around 3.5 -4k rpm, this one pulls clean and strong up to the limiter

Best way to describe it, if you put your foot to the floor at like 2,000 RMP, when you get to about 3,500 does it appear to stutter or joilt (even once)?

May I recommenced, miltek performance system (which will take the pre cat out), as well as an uprated actuator.

Also you mentioned about Gaz suspension, which model? GDA, GGA?

I have GGA Golds:

Also I would recommenced getting these professionally fitted as many aspects of VX220 suspension geometry are adjustable already.

No it doesnt do that, no stalling or anything. I dont think i want to change the exhaust, for me its a trade off between the corsa 1.2 esq noise and pointless noise. 4 pots just dont sound nice enough to draw attention to it imo. Plus its quick enough in a straight line for now, ive been driving a 1.3 Hyundai for the last 6 months

The suspension is the bottom of the range ones i think, i just want them to take out the big wheel arch gaps and loose a bit of body roll. Had them on my old one and thought they were excellent value for money. I'll fit them myself as its only 8 bolts then get someone to do a nice geo setup

The Milteks to make a very nice noise, no way over the top and have the same tail pipe design as the standard exhaust.

If you do take it to some VX or Lotus on Track days I promise your come home wanting one. However thats just my take on it

Would be surprised, family's one ran 245bhp on the last R&R day, thats enough power for these cars though.

Looks lovely mate, id love one of these, tbh anyone who has one only needs the remap and the suspension change in my eyes once the arch gap has gone they look perfect on standard wheels
