a mates big end has gone on his 106 rallye how hard would a complete engine rebuild be and how much would parts cost and how long would it take? sorry for the frenchness

Complete engine rebuild: not so hard just time consuming.
Cost and parts is hard to say because if the engine is out you could find other problems or find things you may as well replace while its out.
Id get a £200 saved before you start.

Ditto. Will probably be cheaper to find a good 16v engine than it will be to rebuild his current 8v. Will be sooooo much quicker as well

easy enough to do yourself, just need to grind the 8v offside mount to fit the cam cover 
then take it to spoox for wiring

Engines are good actually, just the gearboxes, shafts etc the break all the time 
There was a 1.6 XSI engine for sale on 106owners, loom, ecu, etc etc for £150. Same engine as the rallye.
