What do I need to look for? What do I need to make sure has been done? Is there any questions I should ask?

Obviously to normal car-buying stuff, but is there any conversion questions I need to ask? Is there any gearbox that isn't very good and should be avoided? Is there any drive shafts that should be avoided? I have no XE experience, or even conversion experience, and I want to buy a Corsa GSi XE. I've got an eye on a few on eBay but I'm worried I'll buy a shitter.

What are things prone to break, or go wrong on a 16v XE?

Are there different types of 2.0 16v XE engines?

If it pulls hard through every gear with no flat spots, no smoke and starts fine when cold, what else should I check?

Cheers for the help...

If it's got power steering and a multi-V fan belt make sure and ask the guy about it and how it's set up, what parts are used etc. 20 mins into the drive from getting mine back up (Manchester to Glasgow ) the fan belt was flung off into the night due to the PAS pump not being lined up properly. But it took me 6 months to realise that that was the problem.

Apart from that, ask where the conversion was done and who by etc. Find out it it's a 20xe or c20xe - the main difference between them being you don't need a cat on a 20xe, which is something you might want to consider. Also, older, 'early', XE's came with distributors - not too clued up on that side of things though.

When I got mine I jumped in way too fast and hit problems as said. Saying that though, there weren't a lot for sale and I'm happy with it even though it's caused me nothing but hassle.

When it's going though, there's nothing better. Until I can afford a LET anyway
