thought i would pipe up and say the enlarged regal top hat on my (and yours! ) calibra was fine also jambo

For aftermarket managment my omex on the corsa was fine. And torque of the devil are local for mapping.. theres also MA Developments near you.. they may be able to sort somthing out, but im not sure what they prefer to use

imo if you're going for chips then you need to look at it like cake recipe , you need to follow the ingredients (engine spec) for that certain recipe and if you don't then things may not turn out like you wanted. And what Nic said about the management, will suit your mods better.

What sort of boost were you running? only i know people with 500bhp evos, 450bhp cossies, 300bhp ZVH's and none of them run Dv's just blanking plates for that rally style compressor surge noise and none of them have ever had a problem with oil seals going - let alone shafts snapping!

Id have thought with 400bhp you would want a custom map anyway, a custom map could easily gain you 30-40bhp and make things much safer and easier to live with!

dizzy - you talkning about the 'chatter' sort of noise? pretty sure if its what im thinking off, you are stalling the turbo, which yeah sounds aweomse but will damage the turbo.

yeah compressor surge, or 'wastegate chatter' as the uneducated label it.

People say it damages the turbo, but then again people say when you shave your hair grows back thicker, if you eat crusts your hair goes curly and a swan can break your arm but they are all urban myths. Ive yet to see a turbo lunched due to compressor surge, although i dont repair turbos for a living so somewone who does could probably shed more light on it.

well it damaged my turbo as the dumo valve coulnt cope and was stalling the turbo all the time. it was running 1.8 bar although the turbo was a cheap one it still lasted a good bit before death.

Jambo, out of intrest why chase 400bhp

best LET ive been in so far was simps phase 2 or 3 LET nova

saying that with the looms and ecus getting on for 15 years old+ and the advatages of stand alone i would certianly look into it

Indeed Jr, every single issue i had with my Let had a theme. The Loom. Old perished rubber/plastic insulation, dodgy terminals giving off funny and eratic signals etc.

Wont be taking that chance again.
So aftermarket management sounds like the way forward. And no afm sounds good as they are notoriously guff.

jr i know 350bhp is acheivable with phase 3, a top hat a decent engine and a 50bhp shot of nitrous. 400bhp is a whole different ball game, its an exciting figure, plus mine was a missile with 237bhp and as 400bhp is a little under double i can imagine its mental. And thats the only reason to build one imo

ah but it will go round a corner ok. now im not saying they handle well, i know they dont. but say you lose 10mph over another car in a corner. its the quickness you can make that 10mph up and then pass that car that means its not really an issue

sorry to plug other webistes but if your serious about this kind of tunning can i reccomend Vauxsport.com

I can think of at least 3 cars on there that do or will make 400bhp+, main one being specky's as its proved the numbers but TurboGav and Chips are likey to be over that, then Sbd16v etc

Thats true
And tbh, how many corsa LET owners are hardcore track addicts.

On the motorway, where most "plays" would be had, a 400bhp LET corsa will be EXTREMLY hard to beat. Rarris and Porkies would have trouble to 130 odd where areodynamics start to come into play.

infact in all honesty this isnt really the site to ask about a 400bhp let as people who have never made them will always comment and reply. better off on migweb or vauxsport to ask.

Not that there are not members on here that have made the numbers, its just a bit more frequent over there

the TOTB team is also run from vauxsport so it attracts that kind of member i suppose

i have seen specks car but i ahve not yet made an appearance at TOTB, hoping to go this year so may see you there bud

cheers
