After one of the above as they all fit into my price range, for going to and from work and generally small trips to shops/friends etc etc.
Your opinions on what would be best for me, common faults, peoples opinions and previous owners experiences would be greatly appreciated

I beg to differ. It may be slow and gutless, but they are bomb proof. Where as the Zetec engines (1.25, 1.4 and 1.6) are known to have some troubles.

I'd go for the 1.2 16v Corsa C personally. Then again, it's a Corsa site

I'd definitely go for the Corsa.

Presumably you mean mk5 Fiesta? They looks fairly good but they use the same chassis as the mk 3 and 4, plus [old man practicality moment]Corsas have more room in the back [/old man practicality moment].

My mate has got a mk4 fiesta 1.25 and it flies for its engine size, its comfortable to drive and he hasn't had any problems with his car.
It leaves my other mate 1.2 C miles behind and is nicer to drive IMO.

The 1.3 is ok, reliable, nippy and not bad to drive, but noisy and not amazing on fuel.

Ive driven all except the punto.

Also get an insurance quote on a punto and a 1.25 fiesta as they aren't that cheap to insure, for their engine size.

Granted, the 1.25/1.4/1.6 Ford engines are good, but dodgey in terms of burning fuel. Keep an eye on it and it'll be fine.

My missus learnt the hard way.

The 1.25 fiestas are amazingly nippy through experience of friends having them. Not sure on fuel or how they feel to drive though

I wouldnt touch the 1.3 8v however, going to be so slow and sluggish, your going to be ragging every gear to make it how you would want it.

I love that shape Punto, my favorite out the lot of them. Looks great in yellow too, as does the Sporting kit

Puntos are fast and easy to repair but need repairing a lot.

Fiestas, all the engines are partial to a bit of fuel gulping. The 1.3 is a pushrod (not OHC) engine meaning it sounds really tappy (but it is fine). The Zetecs like oil according to Deano.

Corsa 1.2 16v is a brilliant engine, in both B and C form. The only problem with them is they like to eat sensors (AFM, ICV etc etc.)

On the contrary, my 12v (same engine as 1.2 16v practically, just smaller) hasn't eaten any sensors since I've had the car - it's now on 90k and I got it on 59k.

I have replaced the AFM once BUT it wasn't throwing up EML - just the lack of power when pulling off after idling.

It is a well known fact the Zetec engines like their oil and repairs can be expensive. As long as you get a well looked after one and keep an eye, it will be more than fine. A tell tail will be if you go and look at the car and the oil is quite low, I wouldn't touch it.

The Fiestas (MK4 and MK5) are quite nippy and handle well, but the interior fittings feel 'smaller' than a Corsa B. By that I mean you feel like you're in a smaller car, whereas the Corsa feels bigger.

Exactly, you wouldn't replace an AFM or an ICV on some other engines.

My Corsa got to the point where it just used to happen, EML light used to come on.

My mates Mk6 1.25 Zetec climate manages about 250 miles to 35 litres.

Thats piss poor.

lol the MK6 engines are Duratec, not Zetec though

MK4 & MK5 1.25/1.4/1.6 = Zetec
MK4 & MK5 1.3 = Endura (same as in KA)
MK6 = Duratec & Duratorq iirc.

I'd personally choose the 1.25 fiesta over the others because its the best handling car out of the choices, its fairly nippy for what it is and will be a peice of piss to drop a 1.6 zetec-s or 1.7 puma engine in, if further down the line you want a bit more go.

As has been said, they do like their oil but if its checked every 1-2 weeks like any competant person would then you wont have any problems. And if it were to go bang the engines aren't expensive or hard to swap.

The 1.3 is shit and should have been binned back when it was a hcs lump lol
