I've been Looking at BMW 5 series of late [new shape], as i want a nice big comfy car to loaf about in as i do an obscene amount of mileage, It has to be something nice to drive and comfy too as i get a bad back when i'm on road for a long time. Budget around 8k but i was wondering what else i could get for my money thats similar to the 5series.
Could stretch the budget as i'm selling my 206 GTi, 307 and waiting for a claim to come through on my Golf Gti T.

BMW 530d
DO you realise how thirsty a E55AMG is and the cost of running one is just obscene.

Yea just had a look at that AMG and it's unrealisic tbh, dont want to spend 5k on an 11 year old car, thinking more along the lines of a 535 530D as Fad suggested, I was thinking of newish cars somewhere along them lines, nice and big and comfy

Audi a6 3.0 tdi's are also affordable now. Although I can imagine the BMW would be more of a drivers car and have better residuals in the long run

You will be looking at fairly high mileage 530d's for that money

Would you not be better getting something nearly new with warranty? Could get a 6-12 month old CDTi Vectra or something.
Then you get a decent warranty, cheap servicing for a bit?

I haven't been in a new Vectra yet would expect it to be cheap?? no? i want somewhere thats nice to be all day every.
Now that is one nice car i hadn't even thought of Corsa nut, Thinking out of the box is what i like

the base model mondeos are pretty horrible i agree with you there but a manager at work had a silver st220 and it was a much nicer place to be with the recaros etc, most seem to be fully loaded aswell.
what about a volvo s60? can get either a t5 or d5 on your budget
