What would you go for? I've got a daily driver and am getting a bonus soon so will hopefully have this much to spend. Ideally wants to be standard and a hot hatch.

Suggestions welcome.

So far I've thougt of:

106 GTI ( expensive saxo vts)
Saxo VTS (Chav image but good fun)
206 GTI ( good spec, more of a warm hatch maybe girly?)
306 GTI ^ (look very dated now though imo)

I dont get these bonus'. I thought these bonus' were due when the bank makes a profit on lending money to people who actually pay it back.

Its a joke, the kill the world buy lending money to folk who cant pay it back, and then want a bonus for doing so

306 Gti 6 is the best flat out at 140mph, probably the best handling and see 60 in about 7 seconds iirc.

206 GTi are slow as fuck, the 180's are quicker but peugeot lost the way with hot hatches since they discontinued the 106 GTi

106 and saxo are cool cars but seriously unsafe, ive seen 8 or 10 that have been in accidents and the mess they were in i couldnt make up my mind if the people inside had made it out alive or not.

Have you considered an R5 turbo? cult cars on the way to classic status at a rapid rate. they dont seem to rot either so if you get a good one its a worthy investment.

Staying with the renault theme you can get a clio williams for under 2k now, again they are a seriously fun car and onthe way to classic status. They are bad for rusty arches though.

Fiesta RS turbo? Again another fast approaching classic. they are bad for rot though so its worth making sure you got the underside stripped and treated upon purchase.

Honda Civic VTI, fast cars - the ones with independant rear suspension are the best handling fwd hatches money can buy - with a rev happy 160bhp honda 1.6 they are reliable fun too. earlier EG models can rust so have a look at them. EK models are much better for rust but half way through production they swapped to beam rear axles and beam axles are wank for handling so stay away from them if you can. EK are also still quite pricey

Mitsubishi colt cyborg mirage. 170bhp n/a 1600cc. Wicked little cars but quite rare.

I've had a Civic EK4 VTI VTEC and it was great fun. Under £2k is likely to be a dog?

Clio Williams is a good shout.

If I could stretch to £3k then I'd definately go for a Clio 172 without a doubt.

Clio 172... i dont rate them at all. Too soft and not focussed enough to be a true hot hatch. ive driven one a few times and it didnt really stir me like a 106 gti or clio williams did.

Thats why i said EG civic, more likely to be in better nick than a similar priced EK variant. although £2500 is about the asking price for a 70-80k EK now.

Bloody hell. What a mug I was

I sold my 1 owner R5GTT in mint condition which'd had a new engine with like 30k on the clock and full history for £1500

I should've hung onto that car.
