Thought I'd post something up to show the sort of thing I do in amongst the regular maintenance work.

Anyway, this was a booking predominantly for the rear bumper to hide a scuff caused by a van backing into it but also to give the car a quick wash and polish as it hadn't been cleaned in a long time, and apparently never polished since new! (56 plate)

Bit of a favour for a friend kind of job where I was just doing the best I could - also first time I've wet sanded on a proper car opposed to test panels!

Products used:

Exterior:

AS Hazsafe for pre rinse
AS Duet via TBM with gritguards & Z sponge
BH Soft Clay with AS Reglaze and water for lube
AS Mirror Image via PC and 3M Black waffle pad
PB Black Hole Glaze
Collinite 476s (x2 coats)
Wheels with AS Smart Wheels (Neat!) and G101 tyres / arches
Tyres dressed with AS Highstyle
Glass with AS Glass Clear

Interior:

AS Tango for Doorshuts
George (dry) for mats / carpets and with brush attachment for dash and leather
Espuma G202 for leather and conditioned with Gliptone
Plastics with G202
Glass with AS Glass Clear

On with the few poor photos from today...

Before:

Here you can see the scuff (rear bumper / wheel arch):

and closer:

Car was washed thoroughly as soon as I arrived in order for me to see the exact extent of the damage to the bumper and to get it primered ( I had viewed the car the other day, but it was so filthy you couldn't tell how bad it was!)

Here it is cleaned up:

Unfortunately the arch trim is pretty scuffed up, and not something I could fix, but can be easily replaced. Note how bad the swirls are too!!

So, washed, clayed, rinsed, dried, Rear bumper wiped over with Autobrite panel prep and deeper scratches primered with Paints4u plastic primer. I then set about refreshing the paintwork with AS Mirror Image via the PC and 3M black waffle pad, as I had been told to try Mirror Image via PC - tbh it's actually not bad considering! This was then gone over with PB Black Hole again on the PC and a Megs finishing pad. 2 coats of Collinite 476s were applied 1 in the morning, and 1 last thing.

In between this, I was speeding up the drying process of the primer with a halogen light, all scratches were then touched up using a Paints4u Nighthawk black touch up paint and "spear" and left to dry. 3 coats of paint were applied in total - each layer being flatted back with 3000grit wet & dry and polished up using Megs 83 on an Elite light cut 75mm pad and the PC. Once totally dry, a total of 3 coats of lacquer were applied - again flatted back in between using same method as the paint. This was then all topped with 2 coats of Collintie 476s.

The interior was done in between coats drying etc.

The afters:

The repair isn't perfect, but I'm pretty chuffed, and the owner was very happy with the finish too. Unfortunately my PTG doesn't read plastic, so I was working blind (hence only 3000 grit) - by the time I finished, the lacquer on the new paint was perfectly level and smooth with the older factory paint, so I was happy.

Thanks for looking.

Rich

Colin - Cheers

Gareth - Yup, I've now got a silver wing and a silver bonnet in my garden covered n various degrees of scuffs, key marks that I'm working my way through. Need to figure out a colour code for one of them so I can get a touch up kit and nail blending the 2 together so I can get yours sorted. Shouldn't be long now!

Twiggy - thats bloody cheap - paint was £20ish and there's a fair amount of materials and time invoved there!

The wax used will help to protect the car for another year or so now, and on top of that, I'm insured, used my own water etc etc - it all adds up!

Check my site for prices I charge - I'm still cheap in comparison to others out there!

Cheers everyone

Dan - Yeh black isn't fun - but nighthawk black looks awesome when clean as it has a really nice dark blue metallic flake to it And it's Honda paint which is uber soft to work with in comparison to a lot of others out there!

Jonny - Maybe one day when I get a road trip sorted

Gareth - Well it'd be a first to see a BMW 3 series bonnet fitted to a Corsa B I suppose!!

I totally forgot until I was viewing the photos at home!! Swirls were reduced but not totally gone as that wasn't the aim for the job, other than that, it was fairly blended in - the owner saw it under halogens and was still happy with it which is a good thing!

I didn't realise how scuffed it was when I looked at it the other day tbh as it was so caked in dirt. I offered to help source one once it was all cleaned up, but they weren't too fussed once I'd finished
