are there any scientific reasons why i cant run an oil cooler like this......

please note, the zip ties are to stop it falling on the floor. nothing else.

its pressured system, so really it shouldnt matter? it would just make things a bit easier for me if its like that.

anyone got any words of knowledge about such things?

Dont see why there would be a problem tbh. Its going to be getting cold air through it so dont see why there would be an issue.

wont it damaged your rad when it swings?? or do you mean the zip ties are just to show where you will mount it?

yeah, as i said above the zip ties are just to hold it in place until bracketry gets made.

i cant figure out any reason why it matters which way the pipes go. up or down so will have it like so. if i run it the other way round, the pipes get in the way due to the core on that rad being bigger than a std one. have less space to work with now.

Shouldn't they be mounted behind the radiator because you want the oil to remain warmer than the water.

it was either put it there, or make it fit under the headlight and cut some holes in the bumper. which we still might do if it becomes a pain. its trying to keep everything in that space as the intercooler needs to be tight up agsainst the front panel to fit back in. wish id bought an astra.

no joke man, space is becoming an issue for the first time ever. it will all fit, as me and the trusty team will make it fit. but sometimes things are just a bit too close. i have just over 1 inch between the rad and the manifold. last one was similar i suppose.

for the first time i just want everything to be made properly instead of things chucked together.

Could sticking the engine in an astra be on the cards for the future Nic? Would the bigger/heavier shell make much difference?

Move the fan to the other side, flip the cooler over and have it mounted on rubber grommets to the crossmember.

cant mount the fan on the other side. there isnt any space at all.

t'other side. ive moved rad about 10 mil further towards front of the car since that pic was taken. but still. no chance of anything going other side.

worried that the best option would be to fit a std radiator back in.......

I mean on the right as you look at the pic, with the oil cooler on the left, like so -

As for having the pipes at the bottom, that'll be fine, you can mount them however you want, on the side, upside down, flat (like a top mount intercooler) as it's pressurised.

ah i get you sorry. yeah thats possible. can get the pipes shortened easy enough.

on the side though, that sounds interesting and may work slightly better. will have a look next weekend at it again. ive been worrying about the oil cooler since i left the car yesterday. ordered a 10" fan to make it easier aswell.

cheers robin.
