The Land Rover picture is of distribution not stockpile - those cars are all made to order so somebody, somewhere owns each one.
The other ones look impressive but when you consider the number of people in the world, it's not that many cars in percentage terms. There are loads in one place because it makes sense to put loads in one place.
And if price gets lower, that is good for buyers.

Agreed. The ones that are sat at ports are the funniest - they are there waiting to be exported to end users in another country. The media are fabricating headlines to make a good read. Yes there are/is stockpiling going on, although the manufacturers are slowig production down now.

Whilst I was at uni, I worked at ABP in Southampton moving vehicles on and off the transporter ferries when they docked. We normally had 8 hour turnarounds to get the ship back off sailing again. There were acres and acres of cars as per the Sheerness photos; distribution to dealers is a bit different to the stockpiling of unsold cars - Media Hype

TBF - have you even been to a plant where new cars are built.
Went to pug in coventry before it shut down, the last bit they drop in is the engine.
When it in, its started, and wheel spun to this dyno thing where they test it, and then thrash off again!

The car's themselves don't as you tend to be in convoy; but the best job was driving the shift crews back from the ship to the cars or vice versa - knackered old transit vans which were abused to within an inch of their lives just to meet targets.
I'm not saying all of the driver's took care of the new cars but on the whole they were looked after.
I would never send a POV (private owned vehicle) via ship though unless it was in a container; new cars get the secuirty of the internal decks; POV's are put on the open top decks

This was the storage area behind Audi a few months back, before the "credit crunch". There's trains full leaving every day, it's just being hyped up as said.

Have you checked to see if it's icy on the ring latley?
Southampton docks is rammed to the hilt with 20 acres of Hondas, they aren't going anywhere.
18 months ago it was the same with storage areas full of Ford Ranger trucks.... Although they have finally dissapearred now. Makes you wonder exactly how new an imported car is sometimes!!
