i havent been able to find any laws on it, but i have heard it needs to be in front of the front axle which makes sense i suppose

Yes, that would make sense, its just lately especially i ahve seen loads people with it in their windows

i have mine laying across the dash, police have done nothing yet, mainly because whenever they see me im on a dual carriage way going in the opposite direction

its one of them. do it till you get pulled. then put plate on properly.

just velcro the Plate to the bumper, or make brackets. and take off when at shows/meets

It is not legal. One reason it is not is if you were to speed and be caught on a mobile camera, it cannot pick up the license plate number behind the windscreen.

I not going to get it smoothed not worth it, i dont go to "shows" and i wouldnt bother taking it off.

can get them ones that stick to the bonnet cant you? reflective sticker type ones? see them on some mx5's etc

All well and good, but bikes don't have to have front number plates end of.
