I hate that saying... "its french" its worse than... "but its a ford" its totally irrelevant.

Alot of fun, handle superbly out the box, 1.6 is no quicker than 1.4 although the 1.6 ones are alot rarer. Not blisteringly quick, a 1.4 is still around 100bhp I think, will be no slower than a corsa gsi. What else do you want to know?

I purchased a 1.6 8v xsi yesterday. They go alright for what they are. Thier basically a mk1 vtr engine in a s1 shell. Basic inside but weight nothing

as far as economy is concerned i can see up to 50mpg in my vtr on the motorway and think the 1.6 xsi has a pretty similar engine but will be lighter.
and they were built to be thrashed!

Really do watch out for the gearboxes lol. The 1.4 xsi gearbox is the second shortest final drive after the 1.3 rallye box which makes it great fun, they also have a thicker release bearing than the rest of the 106 range which takes the most abuse, ive got one on mine when i changed the clutch and flywheel. I still managed to snap a rod in my box though clean off.

I've got a 1.4 8v XSI. Got it cheap as the xsi box had airholes from 135k miles of abuse. But its all built back up now.

Just waiting to fit my vtr/vts disk beam to it.

I find it very nippy and considering mine is just 2 buckets and a dash.

I would have one as a daily driver in a flash!!

Heres mine for anyone interested:

the 1.4 8v is about 101bhp so is the swift gti but the swift will accelerate that little more obv because it has that extra cam, the 1.6 is about 7-8 bhp more there isnt much in it, my 1.4 had death over about 12 months and did not skip a beat once i must of just had a lucky one,i would buy one tommorow for a run around, top car!

I think what you are saying is, the Swift was a bit quicker because it had more torque? Or a better power delivery? Extra cam means hee haw

I was contemplating either getting one or a 1.6 sport - loads of my mates said that they are gearbox munchers or something!?

So I went for something newer
