i mean nothing about it mate, just a bit of stigma attached to 106 GTi's on here as they are mentioned all the time.

my mate has a saxo vts which i believe to be the same mechanically. it is very fast (faster than my 1.6 sport) handles better too. But feels nowhere near as solid and the gear box is sloppy.

They have a tendancy to drive to some twisties, once they have consumed them they search for more.

I've had one...Pics in my garage.

Decent enough cars but there are better cars to buy that are better built and feel more solid..

Like this for instance...

TBH though i like the 182 more than the GTI...The 182 has all the good bits of the GTI with non of the drawbacks...apart from it being French lol

Like jonny 5 says there they use some of the same parts as the saxo vts..
Im sure the engine is the same, gearbox and dif, not 100% sure tho

My vts has been in and out of the garage for since I got it 8 months ago..2 fuel pumps, gearbox and fuel reg later...

If you buy a decent one with a good service histroy then it should be alot better.

I've had mine for about 7 months, 100% standard GTi.

I do 60 miles a day, done over 7K since I got it and I haven't spent a penny on it other than fuel.

Not the best car in the world by any means but its a good little hot hatch, just look for one that hasn't been abused.

Half the people who bad mouth them probably havent owned them, which is rather funny. they're great little cars straight out the box. Great handling and fairly nippy as standard, a few breathing mods and some coilovers and you have yourself a greta little car, would have 1 over a 1.6 corsa anyday. They are cheap as chips now,but as said you will need to spend 1500-2000 for a decent lower miled example, alo tof standard ones knocking about lately too.

Couldn't of put it better myself. With a decent filter and system, they can comfortably make 15bhp. I think they look awsome too. Yellow one on dark grey VTS wheels

ive had 4 in my life (not mine, belonging to mates, ex etc), and theyre lovely to drive, really fun but reliabilty is rubbish. All 4 have either had engines blown up, gear box broke etc etc. Dont get me wrong, lass I know had one and it was fine, just in my experience they have a lot of problems. But compared to the similar corsa, more fun, better handling, etc

Get yourself on 106owners or 106rallye and have a look at some for sale, there's alot popping up at the minute. Personally I'd hold out for a 16v xsi, much more fun
