I was looking at Grande Punto's & worked out I could get a 1.4 T Jet model for quite cheap (in comparison to a showroom price)
Just shy of 10K gets you a brand new one of these. 1.4T, few toys air con etc. Pretty similar to Kurts, nice looking & very well priced. I specced on to a level I'd be happy with & it was 9.2K, in white with optional extra wheels.

Or
A used Clio 197, maybe a year old with about 10K on the clocks. From what I understand not amazing spec. Look rather special in white, got for about 10.5K

Or at a push it's also Corsa VXR money. I've seen a few sub-10K ones, it's a buyers market at the moment! Spec varies, most seem to have the 18" wheels which are kind of a must on these

There all similar sizes, priced almost the same (except the Punto is cheaper & brand new!). But, it could be said that it's cheaper because it's not as good as the other two
10K gives you a lot of choice nowdays, just not sure if I'd want anything M3 sized (for example).
Thoughts on each? Or if anyone has any personal experience with them?

Personally id go for the corsa. The renault will only fall to peices and fiat have the image they need to shake off.

It won't fall to pieces ffs I test drove a 197 Cup and loved it and still maintain the 172 Cup is the best car I've had.
Drive them all Matt and see which you prefer, It'll only get nicked in Rosso anyway

Corsa looks the best imo but I would be very tempted by the clio as I havent heard a bad thing about them
Definatly between them two anyway. imo you wouldnt gain anything from having a brand spanker over on of these
Drives supercharged Tec with torque

The way i see it i have 3 options. I go for cheap motoring and get a 3 year old Corsa or something with low miles for around 4k and sell it on a year later with another 12 months mot for as much as possible. Or i get another new car and keep it for 3 years then trade just before the mot with 70/80k on the clock. Or i get something nice like a 3 series, Golf, Leon etc.
Depends on buget, depends on use..

Other than it's about 3K under the book price brand new, might help on the depreciation
They'll all lose money, but this might soften the blow

I wouldn't buy the Punto, to slow. If I was spending 10k on a car I would want it to be quick and handle well.
For me I would go for the Corsa or the Clio, personal preference IMO

How much driving do you do now Matthew? Out of those I think for me it would be the Clio.

Duno, haven't driven either of those particular models. Just prefer the looks of the Clio. Obviously if I was looking I'd drive both which I'm assuming Matt will do aswell.
Sorry, should I have said the Vauxhall?

Not much, hardly any as of late. I don't need to use it every day

You won't do anything to it I'd go Clio for driver satisfaction, but not if you are doing loads of motorway driving as the gearing is a bit ghey.
Corsa is nice on the motorway and the overboost facility is a really good touch.

I'd discount the Punto straight away, when comparing it to the other 2. If it was like for like, I'd choose the Punto, but here it's the underdog.
The Corsa is good, but you couldn't have one in the colour you want (which seems to be white) and I don't think it's the best looking of the 3.
For me, it'd be the Clio, but I'd drive the Corsa first as it might be the one you prefer, I don't think there's a lot between the two in day to day use, although the Corsa might be slightly better on MPG, and will have better mid range punch.
I'd still go for the Clio though, myself. In white.

Win, for that price brilliant. But residuals if you care about those sort of things aren't that great. You only have to look at 172/182's at the moment to see how much they have fallen in the past couple of years.
