If you do, please help with wtf this is:

Just had a Cat 1 Alarm and Immobiliser fitted to my van. Been to have a nosey around to see whats been fitted (as you do!) and found this item just lying about in my engine bay with the pipe that normally connects to it undone. Any ideas what it is?

Talking about the little black cannister to the right of the battery.

What is it, What does it do and is it important (ie. should it be reconnected!)

That isn't my engine bay btw but I don't have my camera to hand to take a pic lol.

Cheers

edit: just looked in your garage and see it's the 1.8, can't help on that one, they're build in the dusty old factory over the road to me, sorry mate

Fair enough. Thanks anyway.

Been told that it has the breather for the gearbox plugged into it, so sounds remotely important - having said that, it's as light as anything and appears to just be a plastic cannister!

shame you didn't ask me this yesterday as i work next to a guy who built these engines for 8 years before moving over to the new place

i'm guessing it's important it it looks like something plugs into it, ford don't put things on engines for cosmetic reasons (costs too much:lol

your best bet it to get onto a ford enthusiasts site as they could well know the answer.

Yeh have asked on Ford Transit Forum and TDOC but not heard much back. Guy on Transit forum said he didn't really know what it did but it has the gearbox breather pipe connected to it normally. Just took it round the block and gearchanges definitely feel very notchy compared to usual so guess I'd better stick it back together lol.

And I didn't ask yesterday as it only happened today!
