Just after a bit of advice on these? Not about the actual car but the deal m Dad is getting.
Having driven the Scirocco and the R32, he now has his heart set on the R32.
Having looked around, managed to find the following example
2008 08 reg Golf R32
4k miles
3 door
Deep Blue
Manual
Vienna Leather
Cruise Control
3per month on 5 year HP with £0 deposit but quickly came down to £365 per month on 5 year HP with £0 deposit to try and seal the deal?
Does this sound a good deal? How does the finance rate look?
I read about loads of these being shipped off for cheap due to the new model being available but this is the cheapest one I can find less than 1 year old.
Any advice would be much appreciated

What ever happens, he (whoever he is) MUST get a Miltek exhaust for it.

Just short of 22k over 60 months with the finance, under a year old with a few extras - sounds quite good actually. What miles are on it?
He does know VW are selling off brand new ones, 58 plate delivery miles from 19k!?
Its not a bad deal at all, that car would have been about 27.5k less than 12 months ago!!

I do know I wouldnt want to pay it off over 5 years though, as theres not a chance id still own it in that time

Do you know what the deal is before the finance is added?
I got offered a brand new one in November - unregistered, delivery miles for £18,700 or a fully spec'd one (DSG, leather recaros, satnav & Ipod connection) for £21,700.

its 5% flat, about 9.5 APR% but over 5 years, the rate gets inflated anyway because its higher risk lending period
the price of the car is £17995 with leather, ipod, armrest and cruise

WTF? Dealer or specialist? TBF I would expect a 41% loss @ 12mths 10k - which would actually support the sort of deal your talking about.

Yeah fuck that, if you want to sell it the car won't be worth even the outstanding finance amount. I learnt the hard way a decade ago.
If you have to finance the entire amount get a loan, easier to sell the car and easier to pay off.

Old man Wise words. Never get a loan tied to an asset.

He could lease one for 1-3yrs at that price per month. Granted it's never his, but is that a problem? Not in my eyes.

There will be a point where the debt will be greater than the value of the car with a finance agreement of this kind.
Always worthwhile offsetting the cost with a substancial deposit.

Yeah accelerated depreciation occurs in the first few years but on a typical finance agreement where you put a deposit down it levels out at the end of the agreement where as this will not.
