apparently opec have been cutting down production of oil because they said they would back in September, but the oil price is still low, just below $50 infact. Futures market shows the price going above $50 in March but that is a future contract after all.

Maybe its all down to the current freezing temps we are getting in europe, when its colder we use more heating, alot of heating depends on oil, demand on oil normally means a slight price increase.

I dunno.

Oil prices likely to increase as offensive escalates

By Carola Hoyos in London

Published: January 5 2009 020 | Last updated: January 5 2009 020

Israel's escalating ground offensive inside the Gaza Strip is expected to push up oil prices further this week, writes Carola Hoyos in London.

Concern the conflict could disrupt supplies from the region was one of the factors cited by analysts who expect a modest rise of oil prices, which on Friday jumped $1.74, or 3.9 per cent, to settle at $46.34 a barrel.

An Iranian military commander called on Islamic countries to cut oil exports to Israel's supporters, the official Irna news agency said yesterday.

But Saudi Arabia, the biggest oil producer, and others are unlikely to heed the call and the oil and shipping industries have a history of keeping supplies flowing throughout the many recent conflicts in the region.

The voluntary oil production cutback agreed by Opec in Algeria last month could prove the bigger catalyst driving oil prices, analysts said.

Evidence the oil cartel is serious about reducing output in the hope of boosting prices has begun to materialise in the form of fewer cargoes leaving big producers' ports and higher prices to Saudi customers, Opec watchers said.

Meanwhile, the standoff between Russia and Ukraine, which has reduced gas supplies moving to Ukraine and some other countries in eastern Europe, also weighed on traders' minds.

All BP's have gone up around here.

Sainsbury's are going down.

Go figure.

I just think it's BP the robbing gits.

I totally agree Deano, I'd never touch a BP station with a barge pole.

Thanks Will - as long as it doesn't hit $147 a barrel. I suppose the £ being very weak against the dollar doesn't help that much?

Someone firing rockets at people, do you know why they are firing rockets?

Let say that in 1948 some 6 million Muslims needed somewhere to live so America in it's infinate wisdom decides that Kent would be a good place to stick them how would you feel?

Probably the same way Muslims feel in Palastine when WE yes WE the British decided that we would just plonk the Jewish population on their doorstep.

They are as bad as each other TBH but I know I would be pissed if I had someone come and take away my back garden just to house someone else.

If it was roles reversed and a powerful Muslim population that came along with powerful links to Russia and Russia's latest military hardware and then declares it needs someone where to live America would be going ape shit, it's only because there is a massive Jew presence in America that they defend them and allow them to go about their business without batting an eye lid.

I'd say give me a rifle with a scope, and lets play the real points game.

1 for a male adult
5 for a female adult
10 for a sub 10 yo.

Let the games begin....
