There telephone system is a joke, is it even possible to talk to a human being there?

Anyway, my car got written off by insurace company in September and i sent my tax disc back for a refund as the car was taxed till December. Today i have got a letter from the DVLA saying that my car did not have a valid tax disc from the 26/9/2008 and this is an offence. It says i have to pay them £40 by 28th of Jan or £80 if i leave it.

I dont get it? is it there fuck up? are they taking the piss?

Got to talk to someone. Aparently sending your tax disc back for a refund doesnt mean your telling them the car is either SORN or written off or whatever Seriously, what a fucking piss take, the DVLA are a bunch of ripping off inbred fucktards.

Their automated service stinks of bullshit.

You think you are about to be put through to someone and it start dribbling on about nonsense that has nothing to do with your enquiry. Like Powow said, keep pressing buttons.

DVLA are based in Swansea though, if they moved it to London or India the problem would be ten fold.

Send in a letter explaining with a note from the insurance company with the date it was written off.

Somebody should have told them it was written off.

doesnt the car get written off by the insurance company? therefore they should have it classed as written off on dvla computer system? which would mean you couldnt tax it anyway?

The insurance companys dont share information about write offs with the DVLA. The whole system is so flawed its a complete joke.

I'd have thought that the insurers would cover that, as they should own it? Yes?

Mates have had fines for mopeds and cars etc that have been weighed in. Had to pay those

So hold on, you return the tax disc and they then fine you because they're not clever enough to work out why you've done it?

I wouldn't pay it, in the same way that I refused to pay the fine for not declaring my car SORN when I had and they'd fucked up and not processed it on time because of a strike.

What my friend does is, pretends to buy tax, and keeps entering the card details wrong and they soon answer the phone
