Cant seem to find anything via search so resulting in asking again.

What should be looked out for when going to look at a 1.6 16v sport? Anything in particular?

Thanks
Marc x

The Sports shouldn't be suffering with rust like the pre 97 cars.

Cambelt and tensioners is the main thing, along with valve stem oil seals, IACV always going on them if not serviced properly and more so if it's got an induction kit.

Ball joints I feel should be replaced as a matter of course over 50k, other than that they are very good motors.

Headgaskets as well, stick it in 3rd at low speed and boot it, that normally highlights any issues with the engine as it's putting a lot of load on the engine.

Just check the header tank, dipstick and oil cap for the usual white sludge. Car might be a bit smokey as well, white smoke.

Obv to start up but also moving at speed. My red sport used to puff out a small cloud whilst changing up near the redline. Saying that my car was very reliable and I fettled with the engine abit, to a full tank I could get over 300 miles.
