I know it means the car has been written off then repaired but what does it actually mean in terms of insuring it? does it make a difference to the price?

I think its like proper write off, like when the insurance decide not to fix it as it would be cheaper to pay out for the car. Was looking at this -

http://www.vx220.org.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=73297

I think its a tad expensive for a cat D car but it is rather nice. The damage pics are a bit more than light i would say

Category A: Scrap only - this vehicle should have been crushed. It should never reappear on the road and there are no economically salvageable parts. It is of value only for scrap metal - e.g. a totally burnt-out vehicle.

Category B: The bodyshell should have been crushed. The vehicle should never reappear on the road, but it can be broken for spare parts plus any residual scrap metal.

Category C: Vehicle extensively damaged and insurer has decided not to repair. The vehicle should have an independent inspection before being allowed back onto the road.

Category D: Vehicle damaged and insurer has decided not to repair.

Category F: Vehicle damaged by fire and insurer has decided not to repair.

Cat D is probably these policies that replace the entire car if it's damaged in the slightest.

suppose there isnt really such a thing as light panel damage on a vx220 in the traditional sense. Even a little tap and chances are your replacing half the bodywork

Hmmm dunno, if there in short supply they wont, theres never many for sale on PH/AT. Like the elise the S1 sort of bottomed out at 7k for one several years ago & hav'nt came down any more & now seem to be asking closer 10k for one now.

I paid £15k for my silver one nearly 2 years ago, 2003, from a dealer with warranty. They seem to be about 12-14 now for similar. Its a good car and most people seem to know the badge is exactly that, just a badge.

Dont Lotus build them anyway or is that made up in my head?

Id have one, if I didnt fear back problems & a general lack of comfort/space. Im 6ft2" & struggled into an elise - wasnt a nice experience getting in & back out again!!

Yeah built by lotus next to the Elise. The VX is actually more Lotus than the Elise as they had something to do with the original engine development aparently

There easier to get in and out of than elises as well, the sills are lower. Its still not ideal but it is slightly better!

Is it just me or does it look like it's had a full respray? Most probably just different light/cameras but it does look very different.

Pre-crash:

Not to stir up shite, just wondering. Looks a kind of racing green in the 1st pic.

Hi adam i think it might of gone from europa blue to coral blue judging by the low quality pics of the car pre repair it doesn't look quite as metalic. however the colour code sticker is correct for the car so who knows. the repairs were done by a previous owner who owned a bodyshop.
