If you are not an avid cleaner than you can't beat Collinite 476 for ease of use and longevity. It is a wax so apply it after you have polished and it lasts months, I applied 3 coats to my TT last summer and it still beads very well.

Just booked it in for a mega detail which has protection that lasts 5 years. Place are charging me £450 for this which after doing some internet research seems very reasonable. It will take them 3 days to do. No space until July though sadly.

What lasts 5 years? The wax? Pointless getting a full on detail unless you are going to take the time to look after it once it's done, if you are just going to continue to sponge wash and shammy (assuming here you don't do the whole two bucket, mit etc method, apologies if wrong) then you will be back to square one after 6 months.

Honestly no matter what you do, 1000 miles later you will feel like you need it done again.

Should be mint condition already, i would actually enjoy doing it myself. Can't beat regular cleaning and waxing, the big treatments are for lazy people who are a bit daft or if it's a car you are about to sell.

£450 would get you some awesome cleaning stuff that'd last you a lot longer than a one off detail?
Some Iron X, a clay bar and some poorboys Black hole and wax would cost you a fraction of that and would leave you £400 to spend on fuel enjoying it!
If you can afford it though, it is your car after all, so go for it

This is true. You do need to be able to maintain it yourself otherwise it's a waste of time.

I do intend on learning to look after it yeah. They give care advice etc plus loads of info on the Internet.

Most of these detailing shots that impress people are down to the camera and lighting.

I can park mine under a fluorescent tube light and it looks amazing.

Ben J, how does the car look now? Probably don't even own it anymore

If your paintwork is not perfect then the worst thing you can do is park under Fluo lights!! Shows up every tiny mark/scratch/swirl. Hence why detailers use them in their studios.

Those pics don't actually do it justice. Looked even better in the flesh.

That was 2009! I got riid of it end of 2010. It was still perfect when I got rid, as I made sure I looked after it.

Well worth the money. Although it was my "daily", back then my commute was only 10 miles each way, and the VXR was my pride and joy. Wish I still had it.
