Best bit of kit you can have for a VAG motor mate, saves you an absolute fortune considering the dealers charge £50 an hour for the same thing

i work ina vw specialist, we use vag com for simple and quick diagnostic, knocking service lights out etc
we have full vcds and would certainly recommend, easy format to learn and build up skills

Thats only scratching the surface.
Can scan for fault codes, and also view any of the measuring blocks in realtime, and log the blocks for review later on. (i.e. requested vs actual boost, timing pull, inlet temps, coolant temps, exhaust gas temps, MAF figures)
Some people use MAF to estimate BHP and LBFT. Here's one i pulled together...

The cheap ebay cables are only the old version of vagcom, can't do that much with it, newer one is much better.
I played about with it quite a bit when I was trying to code a maxidot display to my fabia.

occurs when a fault occurs in the electrical system of the car, mainly engine electrics, puts all sensor to a fixed mode so further damage is not sustained/restricted

Limp mode ftw
I used it to turn my airbag light off the other day when I put it on by unplugging the airbag off warning light in the centre console.

Limp mode is usually a coilpack. Followed by the others once you replace one .
I got a cable from ebay for about £12 that came with a load of OBD software. I just use VAG-Com for fault checking a clearing codes. Not had a look at what else it can do as yet.
