Today I went out to get some shopping, and in a lapse of concentration I managed to bump into the back of someone's car.

Now, it was my fault, which I admitted. The guys bumper is damaged (as is mine, as well as a slight ding on my bonnet and headlight is knackered).

I'm happy to repair mine myself, but am not forking out to pay for his, would rather go through insurance.

How does the excess thing work, provided I don't want mine repaired?

Thanks

exact same thing happened to me about 3 weeks... although mine was due to ice... went round a corner and wheels locked, sliding into a car waitin to pull out of the road... smashed headlight, crack in bumper and dent in front right panel near headlight... i admitted it and everythin went through my insurance and i didnt have to pay a thing for theirs.... luckily enough it was a jeep, and only damage was the bar around the step had bent in.... even tho every insurance company says... never admit liability

I ran into someone, insurance sorted them, I told them I was fixing mine myself.

Transferred policy to my runabout, fixed my car and then insured it again.

Never paid any excess or admin for changing vehicles, no assessors, never heard anything more about the bump since *touches wood*
