Black Nissan from memory (can't see YT at work).

Bottom of the craners, outside before the right hander, span accross the track and up and over the fence???

I remember that accident well...

Jesus christ, 1992! Doesn't seem that long ago does it? I forgot that Kieth Odor died in 1995

1998 Knockhill, I was actually watching when john cleland crashed

Proper names, Cleland, Gravett, Leslie, Ried, Bintcliffe, Thompson, that's what it needs now, they need to go back to the supertouring rules and actually get teams involved again, Alan Gow has a lot to answer for

Just watched it. Exactly how I remember

Robin, back down to one then. Vauxhall will pull out in 2010 unless another manufacture comes back?????

Can't see the point in 1 factory team racing against a field of privateers. No pride or point.

BTCC will soon die a sorrow death I think

What they need is a new championship Either get the manufactures back to make it a Super Touring cars (won't happen), or get to introducing the most popular for of raod transport at the moment.

2.0 16v Turbo Hot hatches................

Just think, 18"s/19"s, 300-350bhp, BTCC spec chassis.......

I found it funny this year how one of the commentators seemed to think the 08 BTCC cars with air restrictors and arund 270-280bhp are faster than the older, lighter, more powerfull Super BTCC....

The same happened to the DTM, that totally fell apart when the rules changed and the series actually stopped for a few years, then it was rejuvinated with a different name (but the same initials, so you knew what you were getting) and people have come back in in their droves.

Regarding your last point, Andy Priaulx drove the E30 M3 BTCC car for the motoring press a while back, and compared it to his WTCC car of today, his car was down 50bhp or so, but still lapped quicker as it handled better, he said though, that if he had to race this year in last year's car, he would have been consistantly on the back of the grid, such is the progression in the sport still.

The series needs a serious shake up, it's not been right since the last rule changes IMO, whenever the Vectra B was resigned to the Vauxhall museum, something along the lines of the difference the DTM now has would do it, they went from road going cars which were basically modified to race (sort of, they looked the same as the one you could buy), to total, balls out, purpose built racers. I suppose that would lose some of the appeal though

That Focus, incidentally, will either use the same engine as the Volvo C30 WTCC (a sleeved down, 2.5 litre 5 cylinder) which sounds amazing, or a 4 cylinder Duratec, like the Fiesta ST, which Ford use in the WRC (albeit with a turbo bolted to it)

I'm not sure it needs factory teams, but looking back, it was better when EVERYONE was in it, Ford, Vauxhall, Peugeot, Renault, Audi, Honda, Nissan, Alfa Romeo, Mazda, Toyota, but I don't think it's going to happen again because of "the current economic climate" but a full grid and close racing would be somewhere on track to bringing it back to what it was, even if they were all privateers.

Or, maybe someone should just build a load of supertouring spec cars for general sale, and have a different series altogether, like the thundersaloons

Yup totally agree. Thing is with DTM is, it gets some great drivers and naughty racing, but i'd like to see more different cars involved.

Won't ever get back the Supertouring era with all the manufactures, as you say.

Re the cars, yeah the chassis have come on a long way, much better built and more focussed. Just been watching some vids and the drivers have to work to keep the cars on the track.

Bit like F1 I guess, all out ballsy engines, no toys, to smooth computer aided funkyboxes on wheels. Times change. Old skool rules
