So, i got a random sales call just now.

Sales Caller - "Your post code area has been selected to appear in our winter catalogue"

Me - *Stays totally silent"

Sales Caller - "OK...could i get information on how long you've lived there?"

Me - "Stays totally silent*

Me (a few seconds later) - "I'm not at all interested thanks"

Sales Caller - "But you do have a chance of winning a......"

Me - *Hangs up*

I allways hang up. The ring usually ring up and say " Hello is mrs...." Seeming I live with me brother I just hang up straight away.

TBH, the total opposite has worked for me. When I moved in 2 years ago, I used to get shed loads of calls (I’m talking about 3 or 4 per night)

However, I used to simply hang up as soon as they started speaking (when I’d determined that it was in fact a sales call)

Then, seemingly over night, they pretty much stopped. This call tonight is the first I’ve had in weeks

Something similar happened to me at work. Knew he was a seller because outside lines never call my specific shop.

Me: Hello, Queens (shop name)

Seller: Hello there, can I speak to the owner please it's regarding an excelle....

Me: Hang on are you trying to sell me something?

Seller: ....why... do you want to buy something

you see if you answer the phone and no one is there, it is an automated machine so someone knows what time you are in when you pick up the phone, you will then get phoned back by a human at this time another day.
to fool the machine before you hang up press the # key several times then hang up

Instead of trying to get rid of them, see how long you can make them stay on the phone without actually buying anything from them. After 10 minutes they are soon the ones trying to get off the call

when we get calls like this, we hand the phone to my sister, she used to work at one of the places that called people and she does her sales pitch to them, they either get confused or laugh.
