Just wondering if anybody knows whats what,

My best friend has gone to canada for a long time and i can use his Nova if i want as im car-less at the moment.
The car isnt insured i dont think by him anymore as he doesnt need to drive it.
Am i legally allowed to insure it even though he is the owner and its not insured by him?
or does it not matter as long as i have it covered for me

when you ring up to insure it, they'll ask if youre the registered owner, just say no and you have to give his details

some insurance companies willask u if its ur car or not, but some state in T's and C's that the car has to be yours.

so to answer ur quoestion: yes u can insure it, but not with any company.

Im ringing up anyways in the mornign but just want to know before hand whether or not its fully legal so im not wasting my time.

to me i would have thought that it would have to be insured by him for me to get covered on it with my own policy??

Yeah, depends on insurance company.

Some require the policy holder to be the name of the owner on the V5C (log book). Some don't.

I know Endsleigh asks specifically who is the owner of the vehicle.

Churchill presume the owner is the policy holder.

if he is away for ages and he clearly trusts you why not just change the logbook to yours? no worries then.

You should be fine to insure this mate, due to the circumstances regarding your friend being away. When i worked for directline they would make sure the policy holder was the owner and keeper of the car, because if they are not, they are deemed not to have any financial interest in the car. It is different in your case though so should be ok with most companies.
