Theres alot of diesels out there now completing with your LCR/CTR/GSI etc etc and are slowly showing us that sooner or later people might actually own a diesel car with the same if not more power than your typical hot hatch. Has anybody been tempted to go for a diesel of the likes of a fabia vrs with 130 or a new astra with 150bhp rather than a CTR etc.
people's views on diesel & petrol cars nowadays?

im considering a diesel, 130 engine of some sort...due to the ablity to remap them!
but i think there is currently a big push to convert peole to diesels....due to the tax etc. . . .

Id have a diesel over an equivalent petrol any day, I prefer the more relaxed style of driving a diesel gives

problem I find is the rev range
against my mates CTR its marginally faster due to how much longer he can hold each gear

two months ago i bought a brand new 1.9cdti astra with 120bhp and about 200Nm if i remember right
the tax is the same as my 1.2 corsa, the insurance is only 100 quid dearer than the corsa and i get over 400 miles to a tank with mixed driving, and for a few hundred pounds there is much more power to be had so yeah, im a derv convert
the only thing about the car is it sounds like a tractor, but i dont hear it from inside the car

IMO there good for normal driving. My mates got the new a3 sportline with the 2.0 derv which is miles ahead of most iv driven. It feels really strong and powerfull under normal driving but when driven proppely ie thrashed they just don't excite me

My mk3 1.9 TDI is torquey as fuck up to 2.5 revs and thats where the power is. So easy to plant your foot on throttle and wheelspin if hammering it out of a junction.

I like my mates Fabia VRs but I just haven't / can't come round to using or ever owning a densel!
If I had a really long commute I would maybe have to but I'd still want a petrol car!
When my old man got his last BMW we test drove the diesel and then the petrol, ended up buying a petrol and the diesel had more torque just wasn't as "fun" to drive.

tbh I think I'd find it wierd to adapt my driving to a petrol car now!
Last 3 cars I have owned have all been diesel.

all or nothing power delivery. they burst inot life at 2k and tail off at 3.8k
Not linear just a massive whack of power
Other dervs are far better although VAG are now common rail so should be better

NovaNeil has a lovely one. "Vsport" had one too
I don't think I'll ever give up my petrol powered motors. I don't care that I'm gettin 20mpg less, and paying more tax. I just love the way it moves through the revs.
