had one,
Pros: great cruiser very comfy, solidly built and practical. Look great too lots of tuning availible
Value for money
Cons:
Crap on petrol, hard to park backwards, spoiler blocks traffic behind, uninvolving to drive

im not an mpg nut either, but it was crap on fuel. And in the real world it wasnt "quick" so i found it annoying paying that much for juice, as its about the same as my m3!

My astra was slightly tuned tho!

I remember when Chris owned your's Jambo, it was bad on feul ! but i think the map caused the problem's. They are normally ok, use no more than a type r or other car's of the same weight/power

I would consider a clio if you dont intend on tuning it.

If you want the boost grin = gsi

If you want to go around corner's = clio

If you want to go into space = CTR

Gsi is ok on fuel,

Turbo's are weak, and badly designed,

But I like mine, a decent lowering and some choice mods and it's a lot more involving to drive, I nearly sold mine as I thought it was boring,

But after a few mods it feels a LOT better

Is the spoiler on the GSi the same as the SXi/SRi? I have an SXi and the spoiler doesnt block traffic for me....

I wasnt a fan when I drove one. Was quick but didnt "feel" quick if you get what I mean.

I was torn between the 182 and CTR for ages but went for the CTR in the end as I liked the bit of extra space.

Tbh I love mine loads of fun and cheap to buy at the moment. I have spanked mine to within an inch or its life since getting it and it hasent missed a beat. They love the abuse

Also if driven sensibly is no worse on fuel then my 1.6 corsa

If you havent already I would drive one of each in fairly quick sucsession and go from there with what ever you think best.

Gsi's do look the best out of the three though

  Drives supercharged Tec with torque

Good remap, a full system including decat on the pre-cat, panel filter with the 2.2 aibox and your laughing, avoid dump valves, a hard pipe kit and a FMIC would be a good look too

IMO it would be between the CTR and LCR, the leon will offer you everything the gsi does and is quicker.

CTR i wouldnt think would be as comfy as the astra or leon and you have to remember its only a luke warm hatch until 6k but if you can live with this then its a very fast, high revving and nimble hatch with a perfect engine and gearbox combo.

182s are going to be well with your budget so wouldnt look at a 172 unless its a cup, you may even be able to stretch to a trophy as these were around the same money as facelift CTR's when i looked. my mates 172 cup was a real hoot on the back roads with good straight line speed and awsome handling but to me it just didnt feel sporty sat in it at all until it was opened up, no bucket seats etc which i felt was abit of a let down. possibly the best handling of the bunch.

cant see any reason to look at a gsi unless you really have a soft spot for them as they are no cheaper than a LCR or CTR, probably the wose handling of the bunch and i wouldnt be suprised if they were the slowest

I love these cars, I am definately considering getting one for my next car

As said spend a bit of cash on them and it will be awesome (for example: £500 on stage 1 which allows it to do 160 mph )

best all rounder imo

312bhp
Handling Goodies
Unmolested car
Most of the extras - sat nav , climate, rain sensors, pillar airbags, xenons
Arden Blue!

As said if you want something thats fun to drive then don't get a astra GSi. CTR would be my choice without a doubt possible a LCR although i've never driven one so can't comment.

Also they aren't what you would call 'reliable' I bought one when it was 7 months old and had quite a few problems with it.

The astra is fun to drive??

I never once felt it was a boring car. The Handling isnt very forgiving tho. Let off on a corner and you know about it!!

Ive had my 2 years and have not spent a penny or a minute fixing it
