Im currently about half way through a 2500 word essay all about this photo. I know some people on here have interests in the second world war, anything at all would be great. Whether it be about the photo itself, the photographer, or the events surrounding it.
Totally coincedentally the image is taken from the events of which the final level of Call of Duty: World at War take place.

Is it not a tad ironic that the photo was taken by a jew, under the leadership of Stalin?

and i guess being under stalins communist rule is better than hitlers

Ive learnt a fair bit about it, just looking for additional info as its not particularly a history essay. I dont really know much about stalin or the soviet union, that part ive been learning about for most of the day.
Some interesting things I have learnt about the photo though!...
In the original one of the soldiers had two watches after they had been looting, the photographer was told to take them out as it was thought it would give the soviet army a bad name, he added more smoke in the background at the same time. Fuck knows how he coped without photoshop

That wasn't the first Soviet flag on the Reichstag and that particular picture was staged.

Its the soviet flag with the hammer and sickle and most likely when the russians took Berlin from the Nazis. Its ironic as the Berliners seen the takeover as freedom but actually meant years of censorship and terror behind the berlin wall for East Berlin.
